Creator of Back Yard BBQ Heroes Facebook Group

Hi, my name is Rob Bower and I’m an addict………I started my addiction about 7 years ago when I was introduced to the most tender bbq you’ve ever tasted. It was like I was hooked at first smell and bite. Like a sponge, I wanted to soak up this knowledge of how to make an ordinary piece of meat so amazing that the only sounds at the dinner table were lips smacking and occasional “mmmmmmmmm” sounds coming from family and friends mouths. That’s the trophy for me. I became addicted to the flavors of spiced rubs and marinades that heavily influence the meats textures and tastes. I began surrounding myself by others who shared this addiction. I learned injections, rubs, spices, marinades, and techniques from my fellow addicts. My addiction consumed me all week while I was at work. I planned my smoking all week for the weekend. My home became known as “Papa Roc’s House of Bbq” to my grandkids because they were told they were going to Papa Rob’s house to bbq and they were too little to say Rob. I’m now known as Papa Roc. You see, my addiction is making family and friends happy with good food. My addiction is happiness and positivity for my family. My addiction is the bbq dripping and smiling faces of my family and friends and the joyful laughter of people enjoying the food I prepare with the best ingredient there is. ………That ingredient is love. You see, I’ve had many addictions that I’ve had to kick, many of them almost took me down. This addiction of Bbq, people, and love, I want to spread and share with others. My name is Rob and I’m an addict.

Fearless originator of “Brian’s Cookout Recipes”

My name is Brian Disney and I’m a backyard barbecue enthusiast.  Almost ten years ago I began my journey learning how to cook authentic southern style Q.  It started one day at a friends house.  My friend made his own burgers by hand with just a few simple ingredients.  They we’re awesome!  That night I hit the web searching how to make a great burger.  That search brought up a whole world of things to BBQ.  I was hooked!  A week later I bought my first smoker and hit the ground running.  I spent all of my free time reading, cooking and talking about barbecue.  My first year I had some success and some food went straight to the garbage can.  The next year for my birthday my wife sent me to a competition team’s cooking class.  I learned a lot that day about competition style chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.  After that class I decided to become a certified barbecue judge for the Kansas City Barbecue Society.  Judging competitions is a great way to taste what the best cooks in the country are cooking.  Now I’m apart of BYBBQH’s family and we’re doing our best to share the love to all interested in the barbecue cuisine.

BBQ Enthusiast and skilled burger burner.

I have enjoyed cooking for as long as I can remember.  From working in a restaurant (many many years ago) preparing meals for customers to a relaxing afternoon grilling a tri tip for my family.  For many years friends would get a taste of smoked ribs and jalepeno poppers and tell me, “you need to do this professionally”.  I appreciated the sentiment but I also knew I do not have what it takes to do this professionally.  I will happily stick to cooking for my friends and family.  Rob and I have been friends for over 30 years, but we lost touch for a long time.  Thankfully, through facebook, we reconnected a few years back and have been best of friends all over again.  Rob and I have talked for many years about how we love to cookout and prepare delicious BBQ for our families, and this summer (2016) Rob started the facebook group “Back Yard BBQ Heroes”.  Our goal is to provide and atmosphere where grilling enthusiasts can gather and enjoy learning by asking questions, or helping others by answering questions and offering suggestions to fellow BBQers.

We are a positive interactive community of Grilling/BBQ/Smoking enthusiasts, and thanks to Rob’s example and Brian’s creativity we are looking forward to a great and exciting future.
